The electronics industry is heading into the 2010 decade with a sketch pad full of technical and design advancements that will bring communication and entertainment to new levels. Personal electronic devices (i.e. iPhone, Backberry, Droid, etc.) will continue to revolutionize the way the next generation(s) communicates and entertains in ways far beyond our today’s comprehension.
Picking up steam is the increasing use of LEDs in lieu of other display technologies. Last year it was as a replacement for fluorescent backlights in LCD TVs. Look for their expansion into projectors and other display formats. Other technologies will emerge as manufacturers are driven to shorten the life cycle of the very HD displays you just purchased.
High-definition video/audio teleconferencing will continue to gain ground as business seek more economical ways for us to engage and communicate in the work environment.
Greening will take hold once the “green monsters” (those who profit by this movement) release their grip on how to make the Earth a more sustainable place for life. Until then, ‘greener beware.’
Lastly, entertainment will continue to evolve with music, movies, television and gaming. It is with great hope that those whom we’ve described as Styleophiles (InFocus, Volume 2 / Issue 4) will “see the light,” realizing that abandoning quality comes at a price.

Hi Fred,
What is your thoughts on the OLED displays. Will they be more larger and support the 2k or 4k resolutions that may be coming down the pike?
Gads,
Just noticed my typo…..
Overall, OLEDs (vs. LCDs) are thinner, lighter, more flexible, brighter, energy efficient, and have a wider range of view. Their drawbacks include shorter life spans (because of the blue organic film), easily damaged by water (what electronics aren’t!), and mainstream manufacturing has side-lined them (so economies in their production have not been achieved). OLEDs kick LCDs butt when it comes to contrast, color accuracy, and picture response rates (1,000 times faster), almost real time! If I were the Richard Branson of the newspaper industry, my readers would subscribe to my daily publication where access was available through a roll up OLED. Instantly updated day to day or for the fast breaking story!
