‘Hurt’ing the 3D Movement

Job well done, Kathryn Bigelow!  What was supposed to be a tight battle between The Hurt Locker and the 3D groundbreaking Avatar turned out to be no contest. The Hurt Locker topped Avatar in the sound mixing and multiple other technical categories en route to collecting six Oscars, not forgetting best picture and best director honors!

Many in the AV industry were stunned that Avatar did not win.  Convinced that the scale, action packed, and most importantly 3D effects were all that was needed to take top honors.  OMG… quite possibly, we may be noticing the beginning of a trend.  A trend that we hope will gain acceptance.  A trend of substance over form!  Our personal campaign of “‘Just Say No’ to Stylophiles

Hopefully, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is saying it believes 3D is just a passing fad.  Announcements on Monday by Samsung and today by Sony that these manufacturers are introducing their respective 3D models may be too late – the fad has started to fade.

    Why? 3D has its place in the entertainment world – in the theater, not in the home. Let me provide another view. Reality TV. The MOST pathetic form of CHEAP entertainment shoveled out by network television. We opened the door and the crap piled in. Why should we allow form to superceded substance?
