The bricks and mortar of Blockbuster are proving to be far more burdensome for the movie rental giant.  In the wake of the FCC’s initiative to expand broadband access nationwide (a major distribution channel for Netflix, iTunes, Redbox, and others), the Blockbuster distribution systems appears to be replacing the “buggy whip” a symbol for anything that is hopelessly outmoded. A California federal judge approved a $9.5-million settlement of a class-action lawsuit over social networking site Facebook’s program Beacon that published what users were buying.  This on the heals of outgoing Federal Trade Commissioner Pamela Jones Harbour, who said that Facebook, Google, and other major U.S. Internet companies need to better protect the privacy of their users. ‘Hurt’ing the 3D Movement

Job well done, Kathryn Bigelow!  What was supposed to be a tight battle between The Hurt Locker and the 3D groundbreaking Avatar turned out to be no contest. The Hurt Locker topped Avatar in the sound mixing and multiple other technical categories en route to collecting six Oscars, not forgetting best picture and best director honors! (more…)

Trivia for the “philes” out there…  By comparisons of conductivity (or the converse, resistivity), silver is the best conductor known and copper second [at 9% lower conductivity or 11% higher resistance].  But in many cases, silver is NOT the element of choice when selecting your audio visual cabling.
