Trivia

Daylight savings time was originally started in an effort to conserve electricity in factories. These were some of the early instances in which factories manipulated conditions to better utilized natural versus artificial light, known toady as light harvesting.

Based on local electrical rates, a 60W bulb (if on 24/7 for one year) costs ~ $63; if it were a 100W bulb ~ $105 if it were a 150W bulb ~ $158

Using the assumptions above, utilization cost of a traditional lighting fixture - $126/year a yard flood light fixture - $316/year.

TV’s and computers use electricity even when they are off!

Cell phone or iPod chargers use electricity even when not charging. This applies even more so for UPS (battery backup) units.
